EIAT Tool Assessment (elevator / NEIEP–IUEC)

Elevator-constructor candidates take a dedicated Tool Assessment immediately after the main EIAT. Every tool-ID question is one of three sub-types. Naming them is easy; competitors stop there. Here’s a method for attacking each.

Type 1: Name → pick the correct image

You’re given a tool name and choose the image that matches. Method: read the name first, picture the tool in your head, then scan the options for that mental image — don’t let a plausible-looking wrong picture pull you in. Eliminate by obvious category (a “wrench” prompt rules out every hammer instantly).

Type 2: Image → identify a property or the odd one out

You get a tool image and answer a question about it — how to read it, what it measures, or which one doesn’t belong. Method: anchor on the feature the question is really testing (the graduations on a tape, the jaws on pliers) and reason from that feature, not from the tool’s overall shape.

Type 3: Purpose only (no picture) — what is this tool for / which trade uses it

No image — just “which tool does X” or “what is tool Y used for.” Method: match by job. Ask what task the answer must accomplish, then pick the tool built for that task. This is where knowing uses (not just names) pays off.
